Able To… Appreciate!

Loved this performance so much, even more than the dance and choreography, I enjoyed all the thought that went into the lights and colors. Bravo!

Company: Melancholics Anonymous
Show: A Day with the Newhearts
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

UFFDA

I love Minnesota jokes and I love making fun of Wisconsin. This gave me both! Excellent acting by every cast member and the costumes and set were all magnificent. The burgers were a bit too well-done, though.

Company: Jason Schommer
Show: Curtain Call: Letters to My Friend Louie Anderson!
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Louie Lives On

A mix of storytelling and standup that I won’t soon forget. Thanks for telling us all about Louie and making his memory live on through your show.

Company: Drowned Book Co.
Show: Prosperity Gospel
Venue: HUGE

Mental Illness Sees Mental Illness

Wow, a truly raw and sad depiction of mental illness in our day. Loved the lines about the smartest people always being the most susceptible to cults. And the one about dying to be cared for. Genius scriptwriting. Thank you.

Company: Michael Rogers
Show: Developers
Venue: CFPA Black Box

Great UX ⤵️

Such a great experience at Developers… probably because I’m a developer myself. The vignettes were all too real and the industry jargon was spot on. You can tell the writers did their homework. The actors were excellent and perfectly cast in their roles. I loved every minute and was left hoping for more. And I really wanna play Bearly! I’d give Raw Rob a try, too.

Company: EnCompass Theatre
Show: Shoe Night
Venue: Theatre in the Round

We’ve All Been There

Such a vulnerable glimpse into love lost with a twist. It sucks to be abandoned and even more so to be ghosted. Don’t do it, folks! It negatively affects so many aspects of life and intimacy. If I ever see my ex in a shoe store, I’ll remember not to start up a conversation. Maybe just a quick hug and an au revoir!

Company: Luna Muse
Show: The Witchy World of Luna Muse
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

I ♥️ Luna

And you should, too! Went in to this one with zero expectations and was wonderfully and witch-ily enchanted. Extra love for the beautiful rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” - remember, old-fashioned witch brooms are so 2019…

Company: Lady Z Productions
Show: Daybreak Diner
Venue: Theatre in the Round

A Small Town Diner Feel

A nice little drama about a Minnesota diner in the 80s. The story was sweet and you kinda knew what was coming. I think the Sam character stole the show with his quips. Please don’t forget to turn your cell phones to silent. Thank you!

Company: Ripped Nylons Productions
Show: Endometriosis: the Musical
Venue: Theatre in the Round

🚨DON’T MISS🚨

Best Musical at the Fringe this year! Prioritize this show on your schedule, cuz I’m probably gonna see it again. The live music, the splendid singers, the props - all amazing. But nothing compares to the singularly best costume I’ve ever seen in my life - so fringe-y, so fabulous. Thank you for making this and gracing all of us with this performance.

Company: Shadow Horse Theatre
Show: Dark Pony Radio "An Evening with the Oupire"
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

Close Your Eyes And Enjoy

If you love stories and you love radio/podcasts,🎤 then this is the show for you! Wonderfully produced sound effects accompany the illustrious actors and all their unique voices. Don’t wait till you’re dead to make a living as an artist!

Company: The Churchill Theater
Show: Burr: A New Musical
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

A Worthy Sequel To Hamilton

This musical was extraordinary! The singers were all excellent and kept getting better as the show went along. They all have a long way to go till Broadway, but this is an excellent excellent start…

Company: The Winding Sheet Outfit
Show: Årsgång: What You Follow Follows You
Venue: Theatre in the Round

What Did I Just Watch!?

Beautiful set pieces. Beautiful music. Beautiful costumes.

Company: Toby Cryns
Show: Happy Endings Church: A Haggardly Tale of Woe & Redemption
Venue: Augsburg Studio

A Spectacular Fall From Grace

Went in with low expectations, and they were all far exceeded! The music was original and very well-sung. This riches to rags story is pretty famous in itself, but this group of amazing actors brought it to light with an air of cleverness yet unseen. This one should’ve been in the biggest theater!

Company: Literally Entertainment
Show: On a Stick: A Minnesota State Fair Musical
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

On A Stick Is On A Roll

As a lifelong fan of the Minnesota State Fair, this deep-fried musical is exactly what I look for in Fringe shows: snappy one-liners only true Minnesotans would understand.

Company: Belville Productions
Show: Cowboy & Widow, A Honkytonk Musical
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Felt Like South Dakota

The guitar playing was captivating. My favorite honky tonk song, by far, was titled “I Wish I Met My Second Wife First”… will be stuck in my head for days. Don’t tell my mistress!

Company: Special When Lit
Show: Finger Lickin' Good
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

And I Usually Hate KFC

Well, THAT was something I hope to never have to see again. I’m talking about Colonel Sanders “rooster”… his pride and joy… his secret recipe, if you will. Dear Lord, we need stronger trigger warnings. But how would one even know that this unique kink would be a trigger? Maybe that’s the point. Bless you guys for making me laugh. Damn you guys for haunting my nightmares for years to come.

Company: Tom Reed
Show: Erotica for Houseplants
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

ABSOLUTE GENUS 🪴🌱🌿

Gettin’ hard for houseplants - who would’ve thought? This guy thought. Not about fucking plants himself, but about plants fucking other plants. 🌵 That’s totally normal and okay. For a human mind to create such a comedic masterpiece, he’d have to be hopped up on Miracle Gro or something… and I’m so very glad he chose to fertilize himself. Nothing comes close to this well-written and well-performed show at MN Fringe this year. Just wow. Add it to your schedule now!

Company: Fearless Comedy Productions
Show: What's Your Day Job? Or, How Capitalism Destroys Us All!
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage

Hit Close To Home

Fearless comedy for peerless laughs… my favorite part was also the end scene with the clown and his fiancé. Just can’t figure out if I’m the clown or the fiancé in my relationship? 🤡

Company: Jackdonkey Productions
Show: A Drug Play
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Unique and Vivid Thematic Dance

D.A.R.E. has zero merit compared to D.A.B.S.! Loved every movement of this show. Go see it for yourselves~

Company: SAATH
Show: Desi Heart Crust
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Desi Heart MUST

This is a must-see for all Fringe-goers and dance fans alike! The dancing scenes were full and beautiful with a mix of hip hop and Bollywood to rival any other mashup. And they went along perfectly with the story being told. I only wish I could dance like that.

Company: 2HOOTS PRODUCTIONS
Show: Jon Bennett: FIRE IN THE METH LAB
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust

Family Member In Rehab

This review does NOT have a religious moral! But seriously, after a family member keeps going in and out of rehab, I wish they'd just find Jesus or something. I absolutely love the buttons available for purchase at the end - "I ♥️ Meth" and "I Don't Like Jokes"... Genius. I'll be wearing them until they fall off.

Company: Sugar Throw Theatre
Show: What Takes Who
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental

In. Cred. I. Ble.

Fucking capitalism, amirite? This raw depiction of life in our country, including all the inequality and rampant racism, is really messed up - in truly the best way possible! There's singing, a dino puppet, literal soap boxes, tampons, and lots and lots of cold hard cash. With [somewhat] personal stories interwoven into the show, the actors shine through their passionate and engaged performances. Highly recommend sitting in the front row!

Company: Broken Wing Productions
Show: My Empty Arms
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

This Was Beautiful

I chose this one at the last second and I'm so glad I did! A moving true-story narrative that kept us riveted the whole time. We laughed and cried at almost every scene. And that ending - whoa! Quite unexpected and just... real. Thank you, Sheree, for telling your tale of choosing adoption for your daughter. ♥️
