Gasthaus gives us love and hope

"Gasthaus" takes place in a commonly neglected time and place (dreary, oppressive 1950s post-WWII Germany), featuring a deep state drawing a fat red line through people's lives. But at its core, "Gasthaus" is a profound story of love across that line. Despite choppy scene changes and sound cues, the tight writing, sure-footed acting, and excellent direction create a spectacle that is impossible to turn away from. We cheer for Jutta and Jurgen's love as a sure sign that there is always hope.
