Cast and Crew
Laura Carlson
Katja
Laura is elated to be making her Minnesota Fringe Festival debut alongside the lovely team behind Playing Dead. She is an alumni of UMD, with a degree in musical theatre and journalism. Laura is fairly new to the Twin Cities theatre scene but was most recently seen as Sally Bowles in Cabaret with Orthogonal Productions. However, most notably, she was seen as Ugly Step-Ladybug #2 in her 2nd grade production of Spiderella. Off-stage you can find Laura making lattes for strangers, riding her bike, petting her cat, and wishing she was better at pinball than she currently is (but doing nothing about it). https://sites.google.com/view/laura-marie00/home

Kari Heistad
Playwright, Director, Producer
Kari Heistad is thrilled to return home to Minnesota to direct and produce her first original production, Playing Dead, at Fringe! Kari is an actor, playwright, and director who has spent the last two years exploring the stages of Southwest Virginia. Favorite roles include SYLVIA in The Women and BELLA in Lost in Yonkers (Showtimers). She enjoyed participating in the 2023 Hollins Playwrights Festival of New Works, especially inaugurating the role of GINA in Respair (Rachel Graf Evans). Kari is excited to start as an apprentice at the Playwrights’ Center in August. She would like to thank her amazing cast and crew for bringing this story to life, her parents for introducing her to the magic of theatre, and her partner Xander, who carried a lot throughout the play development process, both literally and metaphorically.
Gabrielle Johnson
Stage Manager, Understudy
Gabrielle is thrilled to be a part of the Playing Dead team. She has recently stage managed for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Stages Theater), and has acted on the stage in productions such as Arms and the Man (Raina Petkoff). She recently graduated from Saint Mary's University and she feels so blessed to stage manage for such a wonderful production. She wants to thank her family and friends for always supporting her, and she hopes the audience enjoys the show.
