Laila Lee
ActorLaila Lee is a writer, actor, and storyteller hailing from Tampa, Florida. She moved to the United States from Saudi Arabia at eight years old. Growing up Muslim in the South, she learned to find harmony between traditional Middle Eastern culture and contemporary American life. Laila graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in Theatre and a BS in Biology, and has worked with numerous Tampa Bay professional theater companies. After winning “Most Courageous Storyteller” at Shameless Stories, Laila recognized her natural storytelling ability – and unique Arab American experience – writing, performing, and touring her first one-woman show: “The Light Bringer,” a true-life storytelling show about family, freedom, and finding the American dream. Laila’s story has received awards and accolades for its examination of the immigrant struggle between alienation and assimilation; against a backdrop of political, religious, and global issues. “The Light Bringer” is a timely piece that consistently proves to be one of the most powerful stories in fringe festivals. Laila’s tale continues with her second one-woman show, “The Chase: A Light Bringer Story”, also currently touring.
