The Spirit Moves You to See This Show
This is my favorite Winding Sheet show I’ve seen in a while. Though they always do excellent work, this show was more grounded and accessible than previous shows, which worked well for me. The music and soundscape were ethereal and buoyant, the costuming was stunning, and I loved the pops of humor. I could’ve done without the projections on the back wall, but after a bit I just ignored them and was happily swept along on the journey. This is a curious, eager, spiritual piece that I hope evolves into a full show someday.

A Warm Hug
This show is like a warm cup of soup on a cold winter’s day. Charming, funny, and beautifully vulnerable, Gabi takes the audience through her family history and gives a heartfelt lesson on female empowerment while showing off some absolutely stunning vintage outfits. If you’re looking for a show that makes you feel glad to be a woman (while also mad at society for being dumb), this is the show for you.

Valedictorian
This show is like listening to your very funny, slightly-strange bestie tell stories for an hour, which is pretty much exactly what I want out of a Fringe show. Alisa has great energy, her stories are funny and engaging, and as a former honor student myself, I found myself agreeing and cringing in equal measure. Incredibly enjoyable for all overachievers (and don’t forget your gold star!).

The Fringegoer’s Gambit
This show is a great example of when an interesting premise doesn’t quite sustain a 60-minute show. It also felt slightly underrehearsed - there were many trip-ups with lines, scene changes were lengthy and silent, and some of the sound cues didn’t seem to hit at the right time (it was their opening, so some grace here). While some of the acting was good, others were difficult to hear or understand due to the layout of the space or odd directing choices like one actor consuming an entire onion roll in about three minutes (and talking through it). There’s potential here, but it didn’t hit for me.

Send In The Moles
You’d think it would be hard to go wrong with Sean, Michael, and guest director Shanan Custer - and you’d be correct. I usually struggle to stay engaged with long-form improv, but I found myself enjoying this show so much (and laughing so hard) that I nearly forgot it was entirely improvised. Add in Awesome Tech Person Erin (or Clara) and Special Guest Star The Trap Door, and you’ve got yourself a hell of a good time.

Miss Scarlett in Open Eye with the Laughs
Scarlett is absolutely adorable, and there are enough laugh-out-loud moments to merit a visit if you have an empty slot to spare. I love a woman who’s crass and sassy (and proud of it!), but some of the stories didn’t quite land for me and the whole hour felt a bit too much like a sales pitch for her book. Like another reviewer said, I’d love to see this show in a more streamlined format, because the storyteller is a lot of fun.
