Hugo and Maeve Join A Cult!

This is such a fun time! I commend the actors for keeping pace with a fast script packed with wit. It gets a bit stream of consciousness at times. I can't wait to see a fuller version of this show with a bit more action, and maybe more characters? Very funny, unsurprising as Alex is one of the funniest people I know. And I can confirm from experience that the Doc Martens wifi password is historically accurate circa 2011-13.

These two actors are insanely talented and hilarious, and the two of them together as a team along with this fabulous script made for the funniest 45 minutes of theater. Was cackling and laughing and clapping my hands the whole time. A must see if you’re in the mood for a laugh.

Needs updated description

As 20+ year Fringe veterans, we are confident of our ability to 'choose shows that appeal to us.' We were excited about the description: "stuck in a mysterious basement being chased by angry cult members." And the bios were good: local theaters with some mainstream plays. We do understand that we all have different opinions on what makes a "good comedy." But, alas, we were misled. We got silly, scatological humor; poor audio (Hugo was mumbling and the sound wasn't picking it up well); and bad timing (some - not all - of the audience was laughing way too loud and the actors just talked over it). And while Fringe shows can "go short," this one was around 40 minutes which is at the lower end of acceptable in our book. Although be both considered it a blessing.

A Perfectly Fringe-y Show

This is what you expect from a fringe festival show. The script and performers are funny, high energy, silly, and with a lot of local references. They are both able to react and have fun with vocal members of the audience and continue to have fun. I really enjoyed the show.

Best Friends Yell at Each Other in a Closet

The script was great and CHOCK full of laughs, but the chemistry between Hugo and Maeve made this a truly delightful watch.

Cults Are Fun!

If cults are this fun, I wanna join one. These two actors are fantastic together. The absurdity and the silliness is perfectly Fringe. I'm definitely can't wait to see more from these two in the future.

Fantasic chemistry!

The show starts off running, and keeps that energy throughout with near-constant quips and bits, wasn't bored for a second. Great conceit of watching a livestream to get all the exposition in a way that feels natural, plus the comments of people 'watching' the stream were so funny

Awesome Team! Also MOA!

Absolutely recommend this show! The two actors are an awesome team. I could listen to their witty arguments forever. Gotta love a show full of inside jokes about the Mall of America and weird cults.

Horror and Comedy in the Mall of America

Like Handsel and Gretel finding themselves lost in the forest and under the control of an evil witch, Hugo and Maeve follow a trail of chocolates into the bowels of the Mall of America and become slaves of heinous cult. The whip lash between fear and laughter, makes this show fly. Sometimes, a show is chosen based on knowledge of the casts or their bios so read them. We came because Theatre Elision is one of our favorite companies and we have seen Glensheen at the History Theater. Both of these local actors rock in these Fringe roles and beyond. See this show!

Silly

This show was very silly. So silly the actors themselves found their jokes funny, which undercut the world of the show a bit. It was funny and morbid, but it did feel like there was some missed opportunities with the idea of them being "chased". We even heard another cult member at the beginning of the show that I was expecting to see, but alas, not such thing happened. I'd like to see this show workshopped and expanded. There is more potential there! Remount!

Wig Wet Goodness

This deserves 5 pussy cats. Really damn funny. Loved the live stream and MOA references. Actors were fantastic and script was brilliant. Would be thrilled for this to be the first of a series with more characters introduced... like a grandma. BRAVO!

Non-stop Jokey Scary Fun -- Quintessential Fringe!

This was the perfect show to launch our 2024 Fringe experience. The two actors worked so well together, and the zany horrorific plot galloped along, filled with absurd doings and reactions. Loved it!
