There's a reason he is a U.S. Fringe favorite!

Jamie is an awesome writer and performer, and this story about his father made me reflect on my father/son relationship. His ability to draw you in and his comedic timing will keep you wanting more. This is a "Must See"! Storytelling at its finest!

Heartfelt and funny

While the logline is correct, this show is also a lot more nuanced and layered than I expected. Everyone in Jamie Brickhouse's conservative family seems unusually open and free, which lets the show focus on more personal questions.

Legitimately poignant!

Very cool idea for a storytelling show. There were several times I thought the show was over, and honestly a few of those times I think the show could have ended (particularly that one blackout!)

Could be a 5, with a few minor tweaks!

We always enjoy Jamie and his storytelling. Though we both noticed that his delivery was more stilted than usual (more like memorized than natural). The memorized aspect led to some breaks and awkward moments. The description says he 'uncovers the truth' about his father, this isn't necessarily the case and left us curious through the whole second half of the show. Jamie is such a gifted storyteller that we hope he can eventually move to stories beyond his coming out!

Delightful and insightful

Brickhouse takes deep into his family history, especially through his complex relationship with his alcohol-swilling, super-conservative, and possibly closeted father. This is all through the lens of the creator, a gay recovering alcoholic on the opposite side of the political spectrum. Brinkman brings his whole family to life in this touching performance.

I’m so glad that I made time to see this show. Very well-told story, funny, loving, and entertaining.

Other reviewers have said it better than I can. This show was fantastic. Jamie is an amazing storyteller and his delivery is perfection.

Heartfelt, insightful, but only slightly bloated

The performer did a fabulous job telling his (and his father’s) life story. He kept the audience engaged throughout nearly all of the performance, which is difficult to do at times with a one-man show. He’s clearly seasoned. The story was incredibly touching, and the audience had a clear emotional response to his excellent hommage to his father. My only criticism is that it could be cut by about 10 minutes. There were a few times where I thought the show was going to end, but then he continued with information that didn’t necessarily add to the message. Overall, fabulous!

Stellar

Jaime Brickhouse lights up the stage with his presence and illuminates his father’s life in a way that only a talented writer and performer can. Really just peek at the “More Information” tab because everything those folks and outlets said about Jaime and getting a stellar hour of fringe is true.

Jamie Brickhouse Spills the Tea!

This show was magnificent! Jamie is a fantastic storyteller who allows us to explore his family as he unveils truths and recognitions that help him not only find himself, but find out more about his father. Beautiful and vivid! Loved it!

Really good, hope he does something similar again

I was glad I got a chance to see this performance on time after needing to bike all the way from Strike Theater to Open Eye within 26 minutes. At first it was a sexually exciting, account of coming out to oneself and then it went into some deep close family history. It concluded with some of the questions he felt he should have asked his father while he was still with us. Hard to say no to first person account of a meaningful story to tell, as it was genuine and internalized and spoken from the heart. As an artist who got the phone call that my father had passed on just minutes before I had left for my tech rehearsal, it struck a chord with me.

Storytelling at its finest! Not to be missed!

This was a beautifully written and told story of a man from small town origins and his relationship with his parents -- in particular, his father, whom he suspects of sharing his sexual identity and alcoholism. Simply told with aplomb, put this show on your must see list!

Funny, Touching & Poignant!

Jamie does a great job reflecting on his childhood in a humorous way that is also truly moving, as he reflects on his deceased father and how we may never truly know those closest to us. I laughed and cried at Jamie's show. Highly recommend!

I loved this show

A poignant exploration of the meaning of family and acceptance, I spent 55 minutes laughing and 5 minutes crying. Beautiful and perfect I bought the audio book so I could continue to hear his voice.

Really Relateable

I knew this show was going to be am energetic and hilarious time at the theater, but I was surprised by how touched I felt by the material - masterfully delivered by Jamie Brickhouse. Anyone who has lost a parent - as an adult - will find relatable moments in the stories Jamie shares. Truly top notch.

Funny, touching - well written and acted

This show was at the very top of my must-see list this year, because I've had the good fortune to watch Jamie Brickhouse before and hungered for more. I'd give it more than 5 kitties if I could. The topic--our imperfect relationships with our parents, and how we come to know them both before and after their deaths--is fairly universal. Jamie has the two most important skills for a good solo storyteller: the author's ability to compose a complex and compelling narrative, and the actor's ability to deliver it with perfect inflection, physical presence, and timing. Believe me, these are both extremely hard to do when the material you're working with is your own life. Jamie nails it. I'll be thinking about his story for a long time.

Great storytelling

You can see why this guy is a 6 time Moth champion. At 10 pm after an exhausting day, he kept my full attention throughout the hour. (Matin D put me to sleep)! This is a love letter to his Daddy-poo, who's sexual preference will forever remain a mystery. Touching and funny!
