When creators Jon Pumper and Fred Cheng conceived of this musical, they decided "to go big or go home" and make it entirely sung-through -- like "Hamilton" or "Les Miserables," minus the global-phenomenon-Tony-Award-winning-make-us-rich part. Hubris? Maybe (at one point, they compared the undertaking to the Titanic), but they managed to stay afloat; and they even think it turned out to be a fun ride.
Please join us in this labor of love for a true teen classic. If you know the movie inside and out like some of our cast and crew, we think you'll enjoy the obscure references and Easter eggs (yes, Alvin's bag does contain some of those items). If you grew up in the '80s, we hope the songs, like, totally take you back to the era of banana clips, parachute pants, and leg warmers (gag me!).
