More Information
Botanical Dancing is a truly groovy show that combines DANCE andVISUAL ART on one stage. Dancers create lasting visuals and fleeting shapes using paint, and markers. Common ecological themes are reflected throughout the show.
Two ecological themes that were used for choreographic inspiration are
- The growth of plants
- The ways that bees communicate in a hive
Here is a little bit of our research
The seedling's roots push down into the soil to anchor the new plant and to absorb water and minerals from the soil. Its stem with new leaves pushes up toward the light.
Honey bee workers perform a series of movements to communicate, often referred to as the "waggle dance". The bees are able to communicate the location of a food source more than 150 meters from the hive.
The movement in Botanical Dancing incorporates jazz funk, hiphop and modern/contemporary styles. The aim of the movement, in company with visual art and original musical stylings by NITEOWL (Mateo Martienez), is to create a groovy environment that transcends preconceived barriers between the arts and academia. Enjoy some photos from our rehearsal process containing a little taste of the show!
