This is a show about a little girl, and her journey to self acceptance, and acceptance of others. Our work is visual storytelling, with minimal text. Contemplative, dreamy, imaginative, and creative! We trained our own family dog, Lily, to be in the show, and as a result, there is so much more warmth and endearment instead of having a show with lots of tricks performed by a professional show animal. We hope you enjoy the show!
Off-Leash Area was founded in Minneapolis in 1999 and creates original interdisciplinary performance work. Named after the public parks where dogs run untethered, OLA’s creative approach is likewise playful, crosses boundaries, and takes risks. The company is led by co-artistic directors Paul Herwig, visual and theater artist, and Jennifer Ilse, director and dance artist, who have each been awarded numerous local press and grant recognitions.
Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Off-Leash Area has created 27 original evening-length performance works, many short-form works, taught classes in Inverted Dance, workshops in Performance & Scenic Design, been commissioned by the Walker Art Center, the O’Shaughnessey, and collaborated with an ever growing community of the Twin Cities’ most exciting performance makers. With 2 Ivey Awards, and a Sage Award for outstanding work in local theater and dance, Off-Leash Area is one of the longest running and well respected performing arts organizations in the Twin Cities.
