Show: Songs Without Words (or, The Mendelssohn Play)

Just Wow!
This performance was incredible. There were moments that I recall thinking- ah yes- art isn’t all wacky and experimental, it can be deeply moving and subtle. This show explores feminism with bursts of creative passion. When she stood up and described a scene with the music I could hear it! This was very well done!!
Company: Mike Fotis Productions

Hey Batter Batter!
This show was fab! There was a brilliant use of space and the fluidity of which characters interacted and when was well developed and organized. I want to join the team!
Company: Melancholics Anonymous
Show: Joan of Arc for Miss Teen Queen USA
Venue: Rarig Stoll Thrust Theatre
Experimental and Playful
This was good. We laughed and were engaged but if compared to this troupe’s previous years- it lacked the sneaky surprise elements that this group excels at. Still! Five kitties- please come back next year!!!
Company: The Church of Ratology
Show: Rat Mass
Venue: Rarig Stoll Thrust Theatre
Great is Thy Filthiness!
I didn’t know anything about this one before going in. I thought a rat went to church? I couldn’t have seen this coming and it’s best I didn’t! There is something gleefully dirty about this level sacrilege! I loved it so much I bought the dang shirt!
Company: Alisa Rosenthal

Improv
I didn’t read the description in full- improv. It was well done and it looked like the actors were having fun. We laughed.
Company: Steven Nicholas
Show: Mind Reader

New Flavor
This show is great! It left a Las Vegas flavor in my mouth by the end, which is a change from Fringe shows. It was a little oasis. I was surprised at how viscerally I reacted to seeing a minute test- they were hell for most of us above a certain age!
Company: KAIROS Dance Theater
Show: husk/vessel
Venue: The Southern Theatre
Unique in it's own right!
This show was embodied to the fullest while still being rather technical. I thoroughly enjoyed the Q&A at the end.
Company: Mary Willmeng/Willmeng Dances
Show: Earth Beneath My Feet
Venue: The Southern Theatre
Exquisite
This was a beautiful show. The movements were playful and clean. The lighting was used fully to this show's advantage. The choreography had me tearing up at times. I was very happy to have made it!
Company: Marie Cooney Stories
Show: Journey to Joy, Again
Venue: Rarig Nolte Xperimental Theatre
Pack This House!
Marie shared an engaging story of her experiences following life changing events. The recovery from a TBI is no joking matter- Marie walked the line of lightheartedness and education in her storytelling. Coming out as disabled is all too real and hit a personal chord for me. Thank you, Marie!
Company: Michael Quadrozzi
Show: Against My Will
Venue: Rarig Nolte Xperimental Theatre
When Art and Healing Collide
This show was heartwarming and speaks to the human experience. I was invested and enjoyed the blend of heavy topics with humor and light-heartedness. Speaking as someone who has a total hard on for personal growth- this show strikes that cord!
Company: Big Blue Theatre
Show: Walter Is Bankrupt (And Has No Money)

Fringe Show
This was a show for The Fringe- allowing equal opportunity to perform and give show production a try! The cast appeared to be having fun with it and isn't that what Fringe is about? My overarching critique for this one is that the show was very short and didn't allow time to develop characters/plot. It was hard to invest in any of the characters because they didn't make any sense. One could argue this was the whole point- absurdism. Sure. But then in the end there wan't much through-line. We come to recognize the characters are under the influence of external factors- which sort of negated the intrigue. There was also a heavy reliance on screaming and tackling, which didn't land as well as probably intended. A swing and a miss, but a swing all the same! I'd encourage these young performers to keep at it!
Company: Winnie Wenglewick/Dangerous Theatre
Show: Adulting Sucks
Venue: Rarig Nolte Xperimental Theatre
Interesting story
Winnie has sure had an interesting life! The show felt a little bit too informal and while the writing of this show had some clear themes, it wasn't very tight. At times it felt tangential and the ending seemed to be more about the time being up rather than a strong, cohesive finish.
Company: Rogues Gallery Arts
Show: Jewelry Power Elite
Venue: Strike Theater
High Whimsy!
This show was ripe with tender sentimentality. My critique is that she wasn't off book and so it felt a bit unprepared.
Company: Third Space Theater
Show: Breach
Venue: Theatre in the Round
Wonderfully Creative
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. The cast was cohesive and the props were extraordinary! Anytime a show blends artistic movement with acting- I'm all in!
Company: Brad Lawrence

Heartwarming
This show was well organized, witty, and beautifully performed. There was clear purpose and message along with laughs.
Company: Richie Whitehead
Show: The Wickie
Venue: Barbara Barker Center for Dance
Absolutely Delightful!
This show was incredible! The character, commitment to the bit, and the physicality was excellent! There are shows that feel very Fringe and then there are shows that feel like pure ART. This one was the latter!
Company: Nichole Carey & Company
Show: Withering Lows: A Love Story Better Off Dead

Interesting Concept
This show was entertaining. I was caught by surprise with the dancing- better than expected! I enjoyed the exploring and playing with the classic.
Company: The House in the Woods
Show: Neon Breeze

My Bad
This show is at the Southern Theater so I assumed it was probably dance. It is not. I want to preface this by saying sci-fi is not my jam so it may have hit just right for others. I had no idea the relation between characters for most of the time other than to say there was a quest to deliver something with hiccups along the way... I did enjoy the playful wordiness and the bits that felt like playfully poetic- and I thought the set design was creative. Both of these things are hard to do, so 2 stars for that. The plot was completely lost on me. On a technical note- the music sometimes blocked the dialogue. Perhaps lowering the volume for the next shows will support the actors a bit more.
Company: Twin Cities Trapeze Center
Show: Tapeze
Venue: Theatre in the Round
Run! Don't Walk To This Show!
This show was BEAUTIFUL! Incorporating all ages and abilities, this show is a YES! Every single person on stage looked like they were having so much fun- and that energy was so contagious! I smiled the entire time! There was a community theater vibe to this show, which actually made it pure magic! Watching so many people engaged in their art was life giving!
Company: an alleged Theatre Company
Show: The Temporary Tattoo Trio
Venue: Rarig Kilburn Theatre
How can I get one of those shirts?!
This company produces and performs excellent experiential theater! I still laugh about their hotdog and snow cones show! This one did not disappoint! The concept was unique and the plot walked the line between lightheartedness and depth. Great humor as always!
