Such a blast!
Before the festival starts, I read the synopsis of each performance and then decide which ones to try and go to. This one was not on my radar at all. I’m almost completely unfamiliar with DND or any other rpg games but went to see this performance with my sister and her husband who is. We saw the second show and I really enjoyed it! I was confused for a bit, but caught on quickly to how the dice rolls worked. I’m not usually a big fan of improv although I respect the art form, but this show was hilarious and the cast did a great job. I think the best shows are usually the ones that I don’t pick out .
Best Table Top RPG Improv Around
I adore Bearded Company and their TTRPG style. Known for Swords and Sorcery, this new show has an 80s futuristic cyberpunk theme. While not as polished as the past version, this one is still very fun. 4 kittens because backs were to one side of the audience majority of the time. Don't forget the people in the asshole seats!!
Hilarious 80's romp, must see!
This show is a ton of fun and I highly recommend it! It maintains the high standard of quality established by previous Bearded Company Productions and livens up the format with delightfully zany references to all things neon-80's-videogame-actionmovie-mulletsandmotorcycles. I loved the new PC's, Anna Tobin and Maria Bartholdi have amazing chemistry and I adore their delightfully silly brand of humor, along with all the other Bearded Co pros. 5/5, must see for lovers of ridiculous things happening midway through an already ridiculous prompt.
High Energy & Great Humor
I didn’t realize this would be staged improv! I thought I would be watching a few people play a TTRPG, and was AMPED to see it executed on stage! The NPC cast was amazing and all the actors were hilarious. This is my first ever improvised show, and it was a great one!
Another fantastic show from the Bearded Company!
It was fun to see The Bearded Company swap fantasy tropes for sci fi while still bringing the characteristic silliness and wit that makes them great. These performers are each so skilled and it's a joy to see them crafting a story each night, one silly bit at a time. This is always a highlight of my Fringe, and worth going more than once if you can as the story continues across each performance!
Absolute riot
This show was so fantastic. The whole cast was simply amazing and had me laughing the entire show. Spectacular job, would absolutely see it again if my schedule allowed!
Funny as heck, delivered with polish.
This was an excellent and enjoyable show! Neon City is an improv show put on by the Bearded Company, and for the ‘provs reading this, I have already said enough.
Why that is so is because this is a group of very funny performers who go well beyond the old comedy tropes and find new ways to something hilariously funny in situations where they are the mercy of the narrator (GM). It’s an 80s action movie, but also cyberpunk, put on with gleeful absurdity that never shrinks from committing to the bit. The joy of watching un-showy excellence in action (except when it is quite showy.)
This is a group of people with a near inhuman ability not to break (mostly), even if things get wild. The special comedy of people delivering wacky lines with complete conviction has a Naked Gun feel that I like. Critically, this is not a group that requires itself to be outrageous or button pushing to get a laugh; it’s simply really funny stuff, well executed, by people who think very fast on the fly.
The ability of these performers to shift gears with a level of certainty that could have you think they wrote it out is impressive. This is a highly enjoyable show that I greatly enjoyed.
Thank You for a Great Show
This show rolls the dice in quick witted hilarity. Love this crew’s chemistry. Hope to go again on Saturday to see what these geniuses come up with next.
Fun, Silly, and Few Good Laughs
A casual, fun time for 80's lovers or Role-Playing Gamers! The structure and pacing was great and the actors had a strong sense about when to jump in and embody a character -- and when to move on to the next scene. Vibrant main-character development and costuming. The keyboardist was great - they helped set each scene excellently.
The Story Master did not appear to actually roll the dice, though, which I thought, was kind of the point of this. And there were seemingly pre-written elements (action sequences). At times, the improvisers talked over each other rather than listening and building something together.
It also would be great to have more inputs from the audience, such as coming up with a cheesy 80's movie catchphrase at the climax of a scene, or help the fill in the background of the character their core fear or important prop. Or even a timer goes off every 10 minutes and the Story Master pauses and asks the audience something (who is in the alley, what is in the bag, what song is playing). A few suggestions to make it come alive for the audience.
Overall a fun and light-hearted show, you really can't go wrong here! From what I understand the story will be different each time too so that's cool.
Must see fo sho
This wasn’t on my list to see but glad I stuck it out for a 10pm show. Walking there I didn’t know anything about it or who was in it BUT it ended up being my most favorite of all the shows I’ve seen to this very moment (Fringe 2025).
Pure hilarity
Was a great first show of Fringe 2025. Cast was having a blast and so was the audience.
Always a Treat
Bearded has a built-in language that makes all of their shows worth watching. It's clear the ensemble knows exactly what they seek to achieve.
Randomly fun
Taking their improv/RPG show into cyberpunk made for a fun change of pace. The crew works well together, and adding randomization into what works and what doesn't can add some fun twists.
Great show!
Love this genre and Burt’s (Maria’s) wig.
