Joanie has been an avid dance enthusiast since age 5, growing up at the Janet Lang Dance Studio in Rochester, MN, fluently studying every form of dance offered at the time including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, pointe, clogging, swing and danceline. Cameron Hellkamp
Performer
Hello, I am Cameron Hellkamp and I started learning dance under Joanie’s direction when I was 17 years old. With being tired of the traditional high school sports, I wanted to try my hand at the performance arts and knowing how difficult they are going in at my age I went to many different studios to talk to the directors and the Dance Lab was the most excited to see me wanting to try this art form. Starting with the classics of Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary, I fell into my passion with Hip-Hop Dance through both self-teaching and the 'boy's class' that was offered at the time. Being as old as I was, it was very challenging but very rewarding and made me beyond happy to learn and work with everyone who was both teaching me and learning beside me. I currently am one of the Hip-Hop teachers at the Dance Lab after graduating UWGB with a bachelor’s degree in finance as dance continues to be a major passion. I now work as a Tax Accountant during the day but am never afraid to bust a move to funky Hip-Hop beats at any time I hear music that moves me.
