Company: Special When Lit and The Winding Sheet Outfit
Show: Stabby Stab Stab
Venue: Crane Theater
very good
quite the show - spooky, scary, sad and above all very very sweet, charming and touching. the horror elements work splendidly of course, the live soundtrack (kudos to the musicians), the dazzling and dreamy lights, the movement! nissa and amber and the special when lit/winding sheet crew have really cut their teeth in the genre, but what surprised and delighted me most of all was the dynamic between the two girls - the discovery and development of their friendship is mediated through niche internet weirdness in a way that is relatable and timely and expertly drawn out. i also just have to say - i normally really cringe at adults portraying children on stage, but these two really knocked it out of the park. splendid show - do not miss! get tickets ahead of time, or plan to get there at box office open - the show takes place in the crane's studio, which seats about 40.
Company: MADROSA
Show: “Well-Made” Bread
Venue: Maison Bodega
you need (knead) to see this show
a really lovely exploration of breadmaking, climate change, artistic ownership; the framing device of an internet recipe works so well, as does the movement, the employment of the audio cues, and so much more; the bread was delicious; charming and endearing performances from the madrosa duo, i look forward to seeing what else they do in the future!
