A Wick-tastic Workout

The express-checkout tour of the Wick franchise has all of the essential items: the action (duh), the thoughtfulness, the well-crafted narration taking you through 4 movies in under an hour, speckled with enough humor and movement to fool your fitbit. Well worth your Continental gold coin.

Many Laughs Were Had... IN RUSSIAN!!!

This was the first MN Fringe show I've ever seen (!!!) and I'm so glad it was. Even with a very limited knowledge of the John Wick films, I still truly enjoyed myself and was able to follow along with what was going on through each explanation of the movie. Great theme throughout the show - "we are all John Wick"! Congratulations to the cast and crew on this show!

Truth in Advertising (False Positive)

Tim Wick claims to have no relation to John Wick, except he does, but he doesn't, but he does - sort of. How could he be related, since John Wick is fictional, or is he? Also the Matrix gets involved, and Nerf darts, and Russian family values. Oh, and EVERYBODY is John Wick!

We are all John Wick!

I've never seen the John Wick movies. Sometimes you pick a show because it seems like the best option in your open time slot, and this time that resulted in a really great experience! Makes me want try them, and if I do I'll probably be laughing more than is intended. This show is fast-paced and funny!

1,500 nerf darts and a lot of heart

Funny, sharp, and fast paced. Exceptional physical comedy. My fave was definitely the rave scene. Tim Wick certainly has a real gift. The actors are all phenomenal, and they most certainly are all John Wick.

Tim Wick Never Disappoints

Ironically, I finally got around to watching all four John Wick movies for the first time a couple of months ago and this was a fantastic, breakneck summary with all of the fun and silliness I come to expect from Tim's productions. Each of the cast was amazing, but Edwin is one of my all-time favorite Fringe performers. I'll see anything he is in.

Deepened appreciation for John Wick films!

As a John Wick franchise fan - this play is an absolute must see! It made me laugh and Tim’s thoughts on the significance of the John Wick character made me shed a little tear. The ability to tell the story of almost 4 films was clever and I am so happy I saw this play! We are all John Wick!

Best show I saw this year!

I've not seen any of the John Wick movies, but part of the charm was that most of the important things were all explained. In fact, there are many narrative moments, and they're hilarious. Not only was the writing and creativity really good, but it actually makes me want to see the John Wick movies. Well acted also. Definitely go see this on Sunday!

"Welcome to the Continental Hotel: Bemidji!"

Having watched 3 out of the 4 John Wick films, it all rolled out pretty much as they described. I really loved how everyone got a try at donning the John Wick jacket and accent, plus, yup, just about all the shootouts happen at a rave. By the end, laughs turned into nods of agreement & empathy as Tim got to the heart of who John Wick is.

Funny, Creative

Not as clean and polished as the other shows I gave a 5 to, but an excellent show. I had energy for a 10 pm show and the great reviews got me over to Theater in the Round and I was fully entertained.

No Dogs Harmed!

If you've never had the luxury of being in the presence of 1,500 Nerf darts and a competing number of ridiculous accents, may I recommend this show? A stellar ensemble cast (we are all John Wick, after all) brings JW to life in hilarious fashion. If you've never laid eyes on a JW movie (like me), you're in luck! It absolutely doesn't matter, and now you don't have to if you catch this show. I would gladly shell out more money to watch these jokes expertly delivered again. This is a don't-miss performance!

Flashdance bucket with foam bullets, doing everything in russian, rave attendees are unharmed if they're not deserving of a foam bullet, and everyone is keanu. we gut laughed through the whole show!

Fun Show!

I was a bit apprehensive about this show, as I have never seen a John wick film. I should have had more confidence in Tim. It was completely accessible (other than some odd sequences in some raves) and very funny. I was surprised by the closing speech, which was moving and emotional, I did not expect that from a comedy show about an assassin. Highly recommended and a show you definitely should check out

DO NOT MISS THIS

What I really loved about this show - beyond the humor and madcap enegy brought by the fantastic cast - was Tim Wick's deconstraction of the series. Tim gets to the heart of it all, exploring the expection on John Wick, both in the movie universe and as the audience. Also, totally bitchin' rave scene that should not be missed.

MORE than just 4 movies in 45 minutes

This show is funny with great actors, great timing, lots of Keanu impressions, and thousands of nerf bullets. And all that was very entertaining, and if that's ALL this show was, it would be a ton of fun! But what Tim does here goes well beyond that. His inserting himself and constantly breaking the 4th wall isn't JUST to move the story forward (tho there is much of that... 4 movies in 45 minutes, after all). Instead, those moments allow Tim to critically analyze the films... And then himself and how he (we) look at these films... And how and why he (we) cheer for characters, both on screen and off. It's still incredibly funny, but it's a much more thoughtful experience than I was anticipating... And the show is all the better for it!

Invite Keanu!

He would love it. I know I did! I went into this assuming that, like many great film-based Fringe shows, much of the comedy would come from fitting an entire movie (or in this case 4) into 55 minutes. And there was definitely some of that, to great effect! But this was so much more. This was essentially theatricalized film criticism. And I mean that in the true sense of the word criticism, which isn't just saying what you don't like about something. It means thoughtfully engaging with material on its own terms: its content, intentions, context ...how well it fulfilled its OWN GOALS rather than how well it met your preconceived notions. Tim Wick manages to do all of this while still being really funny. Add the hilarious and energetic performers, the excellent staging, and 1500 nerf bullets? You get a Fringe must-see. You have two more chances to see this gem, so add it to your list!

No dogs harmed

Well-written and brilliantly performed. While it helps to have seen the films, it isn't required. The show is very entertaining.

Comic Killing and Fast Pace

The cast could be on roller skates for the movement they put out. Yet I found the show easy to follow and had not seen the movies so I was a bit of a virgin. You get more deaths than you can count. The promise to harm no staff animals was kept! Highly recommend it. Lots of fun trivia add to value.ade me feel good about fringe.

Funny Even if You Don’t Know John Wick

I didn’t know a lick about Wick and still found myself laughing and smiling the entire time. The cast has great chemistry and is clearly having fun, so it’s hard to not enjoy yourself.

For Wick Fans

Wick (Tim not John) is clearly a fan of the franchise, so he knows not to take the plot too seriously. The physical humor, outrageous accents, and bad Keanu impersonations were great! Don't look for any deeper reading though. Biggest critique: shouldn't trash talk Jonny Mnemonic.

Now I have to watch the John Wick movies, damnit!

This show is user-friendly, y’all don’t need to know one darn thing about John Wick but dang, if it doesn’t make you WANT to binge the movie series (as I will be soon). As for the Fringe show, the tone was set from the get-go. As the audience entered the theatre, it was hard to miss Nerf bullets splattered across the stage and another prop promptly on display that was wrong in so many wonderful ways. This show was going to have some fun. I wasn't sure how that mixed with a notorious hitman, but was open to a wild ride. I'm glad I buckled my seatbelt because each scene flew by like a wraparound background in an old cartoon on speed. Of all the performances I’ve seen at Theatre in the Round, this one takes the cake for using the space so comprehensively. One of my favorite aspects of the performance was that Tim Wick inserted himself into the madness. He gave the audience insight into the John Wick movie plotlines along with other fun facts I won’t ruin but love. Tim wasn't playing the role of an omniscient narrator, he was just being Tim Wick, the playwright and the brilliant brain behind one of the smartest shows I've seen in a long time. His wildly talented ensemble cast worked their tushies off making the cerebral candy and foam bullets fly with balletic movement. The audience was howling and totally at their mercy. All the actors played multiple roles and nailed every single one. They’d leave from one exit and teleport to another… maybe? Like seriously some fast action happening behind the scenes too to make the performance fluid. I legit don’t know how someone didn’t effe up an entrance. This show is WICKed in every sense. I’m seriously going to check out the movies now. I may or may not end up a John Wick fan. What’s certain is that I’m going to follow Tim Wick’s future productions around like a little doggie… a sweet, not-real, completely safe dog.

Nerf-tastic Fun!

Nice pacing, and fun even if you have never watched a John Wick movie.
