More Information
The voices you are about to hear were created from online posts written by neighborhood residents of the near north suburbs of Minneapolis. The focus is the police killing of Daunte Wright by a Brooklyn Center Police Office on April 11th, 2021, and the subsequent street protests against racial injustice.
I see this work as documentary theatre, expressing the feelings of sudden social trauma found in the natural poetry of residents on the neighborhood social media platform.
The voices evolve into composite, telling characters: white and African-American, men and women, the young and seniors. All bear witnesses to a community trying to process the meaning of a social issue that eclipses the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and while awaiting the verdict in the George Floyd murder trial, in the early Spring of 2021.
