A Must-See Fringe Show!

It’s hard to deny Motz’s humor and charm. The show starts with him already on stage, simply standing, and you immediately enjoy his presence. As soon as he portrays the titular “NPC” there are screams of laughter in the audience. It continues rolling through as we enjoy what is being built; a delightful premise that holds up with the added strength of the writer/performer. As the story moves on—and we move on from this NPC—we see Motz. A wonderful human with stories that ask us to reflect upon our own individuality. Is this a deep review? Well, this is a deep show that made me think about myself, the delicacy of my individual human experience, and the beauty in the artists around me. That alone makes this a must-see fringe show. I had the pleasure of enjoying Motz’s show from last year, but this performance doesn’t require viewing the prequel. This show was a full experience, from start to finish, full of warmth and laughter. I will always enjoy Motz and his storytelling!

Company: Helena K Cosentino
Show: Gilda: A Tribute to the Beloved Comedienne Gilda Radner
Venue: Southern Theater

A True Tribute

I love Gilda Radner. As a woman in comedy, Gilda is undoubtedly a comedy icon you look up to, who also brought a spotlight to the talents women have in this genre during an era when being a “funny woman” was constantly undermined. I can feel the love in this tribute from the creator, Helena, who gave us a wonderful performance with the same light and likableness as the beloved icon. Thank you for sharing this tribute with us, and to continue celebrating Gilda today.

Company: Clevername Theatre
Show: Mother Courage Bear and Her Children
Venue: Southern Theater

A Must-See Fringe Show!

Each and every member of the cast stood out in their performance. This was a successful ensemble for a mash up I never thought I'd see or hear about ever. And yet, here we are! Welcome to Fringe! As much as every actor did their job, I must commend Connor McEvoy for his work in this performance. Connor portrayed The Director impeccably with a "Werner Herzog" flair that immediately pulled big laughs from the crowd. Aside from the initial laughter, we also felt his gravitas, his power, which left an impression on the audience, even when we were transported to an entirely different time and place. Although clearly separated, his part in this whole ordeal didn’t feel random, and his aura was sustained throughout the performance merely through his presence alone. That speaks volumes to his efforts as an actor. And, as a performer always should, he left me wanting more. Incredible, and the best showcase of a character I have seen so far at the Fringe festival. This also showcases the efforts and talents of the director, Alexander Gerchak. Congratulations to the Clevername crew for another must-see Fringe show!
