Show: Born of a Fairy Tale
Venue: Rarig Center Xperimental
A fairy tale for all!
The story was simple yet exquisitely executed. There were certainly elements of many folk and fairy tales in the storyline. Fairy tales hold some big truths about life and this was a heartfelt cautionary tale for girls (and all) to not wait for your prince and save yourself instead. Maggie Thompson is a revelation. Her double threats of acting and dancing chops are on full display as she brings the main character and SEVERAL other roles to life.

Show: ABSURDITY: a burlesque experience
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust
Come for the Beauty, Stay for the Empowerment.
I expected to see 13 +, plus size goddesses onstage. What I got was so much more! First of all, the devised theater experience of a shared narrative was very entertaining. The message that burlesque welcomes all bodies (even YOU) and empowers the dancers was not lost on me. We were also told a little about the rich history of Burlesque that dates back further than you think and was a vibrant part of the Twin Cities. All the delightful performers are local so make sure to check them out around town! This show will be your first tastes. Don't make it your last!
