Great Cast & Set Pieces

This show is a silly romp through multiple genres. The cast has good chemistry and the set pieces are a genius part of the humor! Loved it.

Mad props to cast and crew

If you like props, this show has got props! This show gets so creative in unexpected ways and is basically guaranteed to make you laugh. There were a couple parts that were hard to hear/understand, but overall a really good show.

Hilarious!

I absolutely loved this show!! Brilliant and hilarious writing, incredible acting and the props were top notch!! I feel lucky to have caught this.

Came for the steampunk, stayedfor the horror

CREATIVITY = 5 (who would have ever thought of setting Alien on a sailing ship from Victorian England) PRESENTATION = 4.5 (Acting was excellent. The puppets were well done and automatons were adorable. The Thrust is a relatively large theater and we missed some of the lines!) ACCESSIBILTY = 5 (I have a special love for Steampunk aesthetic which was extremely well done. However, like another reviewer, I don't know the Alien franchise, but Tim Wick and the actors translated it well enough that I found Invasive Species very accessible.)

A Steampunk hoot!

Great comic writing that sends up the ALIEN series and the whole Steampunk movement. Everyone's comic timing is great, and I laughed a lot. You will, too! Costumes and props and special effects appropriately Fringey -- some are totally cool, and some so deliberately cheesy, you'll laugh out loud. I had a great time. Well worth seeing!

A must for horror fans

If you’re a fan of horror movies, this is definitely the show for you! I never knew I wanted a “who’s on first” bit for classic horror movie monsters, but boy am I glad to have experienced one. This show is a great amalgamation of horror-comedy bits that I enjoyed thoroughly. The only reason I’m not giving it a full five stars is because it relies a bit too heavily on the plot of Alien, and largely forgoes a unique plot of it’s own. It does reimagine it in a steampunk (it’s more steam, and more punk!) world, and the humor alone makes it worth watching, but I think one or two extra plot twists might have made it stand out a bit more.

Funny and creative show

Very funny show! I laughed a lot. The dialog was really clever, and the props were fantastic. Very well put together, and wonderfully ridiculous conceot.

Silly silly steampunk

Just when you thought it was safe to parody a sci-fi movie... wait, you still can! This little meta-romp though a Victorian-esque version of "Alien" does not disappoint. The cast clearly enjoys the jokes and sometimes groan-inducing dialogue. What more do ya need?

Hilarious!

I absolutely loved this show as it is an example of how seasoned performers can just crank out of the quality and nail a show! The Sea Shanty singing with tight harmonies was just perfect. Acting superb! Go see this!!

Uneven, great puppets

I think that this form does not simply award five kitties with a lick but allows one to select a number for a reason. This show had some fine actors giving it their all, and I thought the blocking helped tell the story in a quietly understated way. The puppet props were legit great. I liked the songs. Sometimes a show does not cohere; no matter how hard the creative talent behind it tries, or how proven that talent may be. There is no shame in the attempt; and I can appreciate and respect that people who like horror or the Alien series might get some real joy out of this production.

Loved it!

Witty script, great actors, fabulous puppets. Even with knowing nothing about the steampunk genre, it was wonderful entertaining ride. Highly recommend.

Great steam humor!

Funny send-up of Alien and the steampunk genre with a talented cast. The pacing seemed a little off, but I think that can be chalked up to opening with a 10 pm Thursday night show to a relatively small crowd. I loved the "who's on first" bit and the Van Helsing references.

I had fun

A good time with a variety of jokes being strung together with a brief retelling of Alien. An Abbott & Costello "Who's on First" of horror monsters was a delight. Their brief aside doing a real send up of steam punk was surprisingly fun, I hadn't thought about that genre in years but their skewering was good.

Fabulous Fringe-style special effects

One of my favorite elements of Fringe is the way theater groups will come up with creative ways to provide "special effects" on a Fringe budget (and with a set they have to be able to load-in and load-out in ten minutes). If that's something you also enjoy, don't miss this show! One note I'll add is that this show runs short; if you're hoping to have time to eat a sandwich between shows, this is a good choice as you'll have some extra time to do it.

As Good as I expected

With the cast and crew I knew this would be worth going to and I was not disappointed. There could be an entire movie based on this play. The "invasive species" were extra entertaining. Kudos to whomever made the props.

Steam punk sci fi horror!

Tim Wick is a fringe phenom and I always see his fringe shows. This one surprised, but did not dissapoint. I knew it was an Alien take off, but was not expecting the steam punk, the sea Shanties and Renaissance singers! Inventive and goofy monsters added to the hilarity! So fun!!
