Aza gute shfil!!
The banter between the two aged chess playing Russian/Jewish men brought to life a friendship of two old survivors who seem to know each other all too well - enough to annoy each other to wits end. The portrayals of Jacob and Pasha, skillfully evoked the combination of innocence, hope, and idealism, as well as anxiety and fear of nuclear annihilation (circa the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis) of American youth of that era. Though clearly cut short due to time constraints (Jacob’s closing remarks wrapped it up all too soon), I found Tomkins Squares thoroughly enjoyable and very well done.
