A Sharp Chess Match of History and Identity
Set mostly around chess matches in Tompkins Square Park, NY during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, Tompkins Squares is a moving play about history, exile, and the delicate moves between generations. Laced with Yiddish, humor, and Cold War tension, Tompkins Squares plays out like a chess match: layered, strategic, and full of unspoken truths. Smart and steeped in cultural texture, Tompkins Squares captures the personal fallout of history and at its core, is a story about a son’s search for truth—and a father’s quiet war with his past. I greatly enjoyed and highly recommend Tompkins Squares.
