End of Days and Chess
This play hits a sensitive note, especially for those of a certain age, harkening back to the Cold War period and the menace of nuclear doom. The center piece, a chess board, is the metaphor for this drama (chess is life) that plays out between members of a Russian emigré family, the generational father and son tensions curbed by some humor and clever dialogue. The story, while 60 years removed from the present, has an eerie resonance with our current threatening political atmosphere. It’s timely and timeless. An entertaining and thought provoking show.
