Reflecting Forward

A Woman’s Place is in the House turns Minnesota political history into a lively, hopeful conversation with the present. The show cleverly mirrors the struggles of the past against today’s challenges. Staging that history in a theatre where audience members face one another is a subtly smart way to heighten that connection. Strong performances (special shout out to Rachel who plays Hannah), spirited storytelling, audience participation, and appearances by current legislators keep the energy high. At times it gets preachy, but its warmth, humor, and sense of purpose make the experience engaging and uplifting. If you go, and I sincerely hope you do, I encourage you to let the artistry open your mind, your heart, and empower you to reflect your genuine self forward to all those around you. Because as the show establishes, a woman’s place is in the House (of Representatives or the White House) and everyone deserves a humane place in our community.
