DOLLY WHO?'S HOLIDAY HORROR SHOW

dolly has made the perfect show for the silly and sad weirdos out there who are learning how to still celebrate good times while the world falls apart

I wanted to like it.

The opening of Dolly's show is bizarre—in a fun way. However, after that, it quickly becomes a series of ideas that never come together. I can see the kernels of concepts she had for her performance, but they were never fully developed. It seemed like she wanted to explore the theme of fear within the safe confines of horror movies, in contrast to the fundamental concerns in our lives, but this aspect never materialized. Perhaps she aimed for the show to be humorous and heartfelt, but she never presented herself in a way that allowed me to connect with her disjointed ideas. Much of the performance was improvised, which was a significant risk for a one-woman show. Unfortunately, it gave the impression that she had thrown the show together without any rehearsal.

Hooray for Dolly Who!

Dolly does it again! Back and better than ever with a holiday horror extravaganza, Destiny Davison brings both the spookies and the warm fuzzies with her creative characters, artistic props, wide range of comedy stylings from observational to topical, and audience interaction. Dolly Who? is the kind of friend you just want to put in your pocket and take with you wherever you go to sprinkle some joy, truth, and squiggly marker drawings into your day. This show speaks to its audiences through its imagination, showcasing the performer's originality, adaptability, and at the end of the day, humanity. You will leave Dolly's world with a smile on your face, a song in your heart, and perhaps some creative swag as a souvenir of this generous and talented human.

Out of the Box, Cool-Weird theater

This show is delightfully, welcomingly weird. This is a one person show about horror movies and holidays, and also I think existential dread and aging. There is dancing, puppets, cartoons, and a good use of recordings. Davison’s movements and facial expressions may be the secret sauce here, but it’s all very good. I’m struck by how I’m having a hard time putting the exact show into a sentence, but I can say that it was funny and a bit cathartic all at the same time; endearing without being saccharine. I think that it had less chaos than the illusion of chaos; less frantic than it could have been, and strangely reassuring without seeming too twee. I’m recommending a lot of shows this year, I realize. Standing by it; the theater gods have been with me this Fringe.

Endearingly weird

The humor of this show definitely isn't for everyone but if you like your Halloween variety shows more sweet than spooky you'll find a lot to like here. Plus the art is great!

Horror with Heart

Okay. First: Dolly is so damn endearing. Like, come on. Second: Horror/Spooky vibes. Third: Rituals! I’m hooked. I love that Davison invented a production that showcases her talents in many forms, including acting, improv and art. She draws for you LIVE. All of this and heck of a lot of heart. Bring your kids or your inner child. Delightful.

Dolly Who?’s Holiday Horror Show was a jubilant, kid-friendly variety hour filled with a production crew of ghosts, treats for the audience, and a murderer’s row of stick puppet characters. It’s a celebration of spooky season and all the holidays on the surrounding calendar pages (VCR Day is my sister’s birthday)
