Company: Snikt! Bamf!Thwip!
Show: John Wick by Tim Wick (no relation)
Venue: Theatre in the Round
For Wick Fans
Wick (Tim not John) is clearly a fan of the franchise, so he knows not to take the plot too seriously. The physical humor, outrageous accents, and bad Keanu impersonations were great! Don't look for any deeper reading though. Biggest critique: shouldn't trash talk Jonny Mnemonic.
Company: Hercules Theatre Company
Show: Adaptopus
Venue: Augsburg Mainstage
Missed Opportunity
This political satire wasn't quite sharp enough or paced swiftly enough to come together. I was hoping for a more extreme absurdist turn that didn't quite materialize. And sometimes the humor felt like it was punching down.
Company: Boldly Go Productions
Show: Star Trek: The Next Improvisation - Presented by HUGE Theater
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust
Best for NERDS!!!
This was a loving take on TNG, sometimes inspired but with a few lines left on the table. Boldly go, improv friends! Well recommended for NERDS (like me)
Company: Black Lives Black Words International Project
Show: Baldwin's Last Fire
Venue: Theatre in the Round
Excellent Show
The moment Waters starts declaiming, it feels like you're there with Baldwin. It's passionate, sometimes dreamlike, with an emotional payoff at the end. One of the best at Fringe this year.
Company: Downton Productions
Show: Reception
Venue: Augsburg Studio
A Warm Ensemble Dramedy
A light ensemble piece, some comedy, some drama, and the occasional Star Wars Easter egg. Nerd credentials not required but add to the fun.
Company: Lady Chamberlain Productions
Show: 4 Bisexuals and 2 Guys Named John Kill Dracula
Venue: Rarig Center Arena
A Fun & Funny Romp
This is the queer screwball comedy you've been looking for, with smart staging and great physical vamping to match. Don't die sexy!
Company: Thee & Me Productions
Show: Omar Khayyam Club
Venue: Rarig Center Thrust
Pleasant Historical Diversion
If you have or had a copy of the Rubiayat on your bookshelf, this lightly dramatized presentation is for you. Celebrating the verse and the women's art that went with it.
