10 Kitties!
Lauren Anderson issuperfantasticamazing! Her storytelling is wonderful, her delivery superb, and her writing is delectable. I took her card so that I could look her up and find out where and when she will be performing again in the Twin Cities. Too bad there is only one show left at this Fringe; run and reserve a seat now!

Show: What I Should Have Said
Venue: Phoenix Theater
Touching
A little stiff in the delivery, but excellent dialog, mostly well-acted, and it was very touching. I did not see where it was going and when it got there it pulled at my heartstrings.

Timely
No, we don't not have a draft in our country right now, but everything about this play is timely as we continue to send arms and money to Israel as they use our resources to slaughter tens of thousands in Gaza. This play isn't about that per se, but it could be, and it could be about so many of the wars and the folly of us being in them. The cast here is young, and so it is easy to imagine that any of them could be called upon to serve a country whose war they do not support and want nothing to do with. The acting was strong, the set creative, and it is a great conversation starter.

Show: The Big Secret

Profound and moving
Brad's performance was A+. He explores a very serious and important topic and though there were plenty of lines in his story that had the audience laughing out loud, he landed the story, and his reason for telling it, so powerfully. I saw the first performance of this Fringe, and I hope he gets a full house for each of the next performances, because he deserves it.

Show: Your Hello To My Goodbye

Deserves to be seen
This show was a good foray into theater for a group who appear to be budding actors. The theme was strong, as was some of the dialogue. But a lot of the dialogue was very difficult to hear, and I had a front row, center seat and no hearing issues; with the exception of the two main male actors, the others need to project their voices much more, because the dialog is definitely worth hearing. It was also nice to see so many Somali audience members; great to have a show completely produced and acted by members of the MN Somali community, about a topic not only relevant this community, but universally to many.

Wonderful story telling
I think there will be different stories at each showing, but those that I saw on opening night were wonderful, heartfelt, deftly delivered. I'd go again to see some of the others.

Show: The Abortion Chronicles
Venue: Rarig Kilburn Theatre
Timely and more important than ever
I saw a version of The Abortion Chronicles a couple of years ago, and it was great. This one was different chronicles, different actors, equally compelling. I volunteer at Planned Parenthood to support patients there for surgical abortions. Every one of the stories told in this show are stories/situations that I have borne witness to through our patients. I highly recommend this show to pro-choice folks, and to their friends and family willing to come along with them who are either anti-choice or more ambivalent. It might just cause the latter to think.
Company: KAIROS Dance Theater
Show: husk/vessel
Venue: The Southern Theatre
Beautiful
This five dances are very skilled and evocative. The choreography is stunning and unique, and the costumes look like they were purposely made for the Southern Theater (they were not). In fact, the entire piece looked like it was made for that space (again, it was not). This show was 40 minutes, which gave the dancer/producer and choreographer a chance to answer audience questions.
