Loved it, a must see!

This show felt like if Bunny by Mona Awad was a sweet comedy about friendship and young love. One of my favorite things I've seen this year, I can't wait to see what else this group does going forward!

Company: The Church of Ratology
Show: Rat Mass

ALL HAIL RATTO

A miraculous, transcendent experience. Consider me converted.

Beautiful Clothes and Beautiful Family Tribute

I'm not going to lie, when the last piece of clothing came out, I starting quietly sobbing. This show is about the connection we have to our ancestors through clothes and the grief and anger that comes from realizing the massive potential that the women who came before us never got to realize due to the systems of power we are still fighting today. An intersection of my personal interests, yes, but I found this show to be deeply moving and a reminder that my experiences as a woman and as a daughter are shared on a wider scale than I can usually imagine. I felt deeply connected to my community through this piece.

Company: Scarlett d. Jones
Show: The Year of Sluttery

Saucy and Fun, a Perfect Late Night Watch

I saw Ms. Scarlett has a showing tomorrow (Thursday) at 10PM. That would definitely be a perfect time to catch this funny, sexy romp. Our society likes to dismiss and ignore the sexuality of women past 40 or so, so as a woman in her 30s, it was SO refreshing to see an older woman loving herself and embracing the goddess within. Giggles from beginning to end!

Show: An Immigrant's Guide to America

Comfy Storytelling About Uncomfortable Topics

You know that feeling of safety you feel when you know you're watching a professional do their craft? That's how I felt at this performance. This rendition was about Taboo Topics, which could have been extremely uncomfortable, but a feeling settled over me quickly that Sufian would guide us through this with a steady hand. And he did! This ended up being a show about ordinary American kindness, which healed a little something in me I didn't realize needed it.

Company: Sophia R.B. White
Show: White Noises
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Intimate, Empathetic, Haunting

Unless the specific content is a trigger for you, you're an idiot if you don't see this. Of all the solo shows I've seen at Fringe so far, this is the one I'm going to be thinking about the longest. White Noises is more hardcore than most of us could ever have the courage to be. I was enthralled from start to finish, an absolute must-see. There is nothing else at Fringe like this.

Company: Comfort Zone
Show: Comfort Zone Presents: CHEMISTRY
Venue: Theatre in the Round

I Knew It'd Be Funny, I Didn't Expect to Howl

I saw this show at previews and was looking forward to it, but I didn't expect to laugh so hard I cried. Relax, take an edible, and enjoy as these two goofballs riff off each other for an hour. I left the venue with a huge smile on my face, highly recommend. You're in good hands here, I promise.

Company: Paper Soul
Show: Boxcutter Harmonica
Venue: Barbara Barker Center for Dance

Motz and Martin are a Fringe Dynamic Duo

The twists and turns of the story and the chemistry between Motz and Martin made for a riveting hour. One of those shows where you blink coming out of the theatre as you reacclimate yourself to the world outside. The Reubens weren't bad either ;)

Company: Rajan Khatiwada
Show: Curly Hair Boy
Venue: Rarig Kilburn Theatre

The Epitome of What Fringe is About

You do not need to understand a word of Nepali to fall in love with this show. The performers brought a beautiful, delightful fairytale to life through body language and joyous puppeteering. I couldn't stop smiling from lights down to lights up. This is exactly the type of show I want to be seeing at Fringe, and you should too! It's a universal story told in a way that you never get to see anywhere else in the Twin Cities.
