This show challenged me in a good way!

While I usually don't like one-person shows, I was riveted by Eileen's charming storytelling filled with relatable observations and a plot that made me cheer for her when she crossed the finish line. Im also in my 30's and noticing my body is changing in ways that make me feel body dysmorphia, so I found this show highly relatable. I am both encouraged to do hard things for myself like run a marathon, but to also enjoy that bathtub sandwich because I've earned it.

Hare today, gone tomorrow

Catch this show before it starts to sell out! It really is worth the praise so far. We were close to calling it Sunday night but stayed for this show and the Stoll Thrust was packed! The costumes, live music, choreography, and creative props and puppets were so charming and evocative of the source media without being too gruesome. The only downside was how fast some of the lines went. It barely gave us a moment to let the last scene sink in before a new plot point was introduced. It was very impressive for an hr long show, but I wonder if lines can be spaced out more in future non-Fringe runs.

Magical Athlete takes the gold

"Race three times and whoever gets the most points wins!" I swear this song has been stuck in my head since seeing this infectiously fun show. The audience participation of gambling on your favorite racer brought a specific energy to the show that was pure chaotic fun. I was INVESTED in yellow winning so I could bring home my own copy of what looks like a really fun board game! This is a show you could see twice, thrice, maybe even quadrice? It makes me want to see more shows based on games in the future.

Feckn' Beautiful

I consistently love Winding Sheet productions and this was a fun experiment (Boys Night!) that was executed well and a real treat. Educational with great comedic pacing. Sometimes hard to hear but thats an issue I've been noticing in general with the Thrust.

I have a hard time with most 1 person shows that aren't straight comedy, but I felt engaged the entire time. Was it because the humor of nostalgic pop culture references juxtaposed with the most concerning mental health episode really struck a personal note? Probably. I hope this character can finally rest now that his Marvel rival is defeated, or will there be another villain to take his place?

Soul is in the music, not the visuals

Great music. Good acting and staging for the arena. The story was a bit ham-fisted and there was a plot point about how AI is making lives worse and I side eyed a prop piece that looks like it was made with AI (or at least wasn't credited to a real artist). This was a little disappointing.

Salesman Brainrot (the good kind)

As somebody who can only listen to audiobooks and YouTube essays at 1.7x speed while doublefisting fidget toys and playing Minecraft, I felt like I finally understood the true meaning of Miller's original work with added themes of how art in all its forms connects us. While unintentional, it was a little funny when the subtitles for our showing couldn't catch up to anything that was being said on stage (too fast? Lol). This is not ideal for the folks who needed them to follow along with what was actually being said.
