Fast Absurdity, Thoughtful Staging. Must see!

5/5 loved this show. Super funny with a lot of layers. It’s a tv show rehearsal inside of an expose inside of a mini series inside of a play. All the performers are amazing, Rita can make any face and I will die. Energy level is 15 out of 10 at all times, these three performers do so much so rapidly, they have fun with it, the audience has fun with it. If you want to laugh, go see this show. BUT ALSO. If you’re an artist, and you want to see some really imaginative choices with staging and creative ways to incorporate media, that was one of my favorite parts. Super cool. A great weird play.

The best thing I’ve seen at the Fringe and the best thing I’ve seen in a while! I really hope they videoed this because I must see it again!

Comedic Genuises

I don't think I've ever scream-laughed more at a show in my entire life. The cast is absolutely brilliant. The show is very fast-paced but never out-of-control frantic. The cast doesn't miss a single beat - bouncing from character to character or from stage right to stage left (at one point I said out loud "How did Rita get there so fast??"). The camera elements are so clever, as are the props. The writing is spectacularly hilarious. It was so rewarding to see the show come full circle to explain the beginning. 5/5 Kitties would absolutely recommend!

Really Cool Staging and Character Work

I loved the camera work and how they had the stage set up. And the way they distinguished characters with the props was really clever. These are all well-known artists here locally and I laughed as hard as I knew I would. It was ridiculous in all the best ways. And the popping back and forth of characters was both hilarious and impressive. I though for sure from the name that there would be at least one fart joke in there (a la Daytona Winds if you're a Drag Race fan) and I was surprised there wasn't. My only complaint is that the music was really loud and the laughter was really loud and I couldn't hear some of the lines. Also seeing this show gave me this actual sentence I said to my fiance - "I met your boss today. He had a line about wanting to have his nipples on Rita's ass."

I LOVED IT!!!

I've seen these actors in shows before, and I've loved their work in the past, so I thought I'd head over to Strike Theater to check this one out. IT WAS WONDERFUL - funny as hell, extremely clever, fast-paced, the perfect amount of weird, and thoroughly engaging from start to finish! I'm dazzled! I highly recommend going over to Strike Theater to see this awesome show!!!

Comedy perfection

I laughed a lot. Three local comedic treasures on one stage doing what they do best? I'M IN! Seriously, this show should be sold out every night, but too many people are weird about driving that TEN MINUTES to NE Minneapolis from the Rarig where this is this magical show going on and FREE FREAKING PARKING! Anyway, go see this!

You Don't Have 2 Watch Dynasty 2 Have an Attitude

This show captures the true spirit of the Fringe. It’s fresh; it’s goofy in the greatest sense of the word, and it takes the bold risk hoping their audience will want to delve into the background drama of a fictional TV miniseries from 40 years ago. It’s got some frantic oh-God-another-week-of-rehearsals-would-have-been-nice energy. It has a tight and trusting ensemble of three invested actors scrambling around stage to pull off multiple exits, entrances, costume changes, and shifts in character. The camera work added a whole other engaging layer to the news anchors, D-list celebrities, writers, and producers involved in this miniseries, and when the cameras took a moment longer to catch up with the ensemble’s ludicrous hustle, those hiccups just made the effort that much more endearing. A few tempting highlights without spoiling too much of the lampooning that unfolds: Mike Fotis’ Roger Ebert observation, Rita Boersma’s quicksilver exits and entrances, and Tim Hellendrung trying repeatedly to caress a non-consenting cheek. For those few that may not connect with the mockumentary-style execution and appreciate its generous humor, I declare “Slappies.” The flaws are easily forgivable and give this silly spoof even that much more charm. In parting, the way these comic geniuses forever perverted the theme to Taxi compels me to lock this in at five kitties.

Eventually comes full circle

This was funny and had its moments! I enjoyed it. The idea was unique and I thought it was a fun approach. I struggled to keep up with who was who throughout the performance, though as 3 actors had several characters. I couldn't keep track of who everyone was and all of their perspectives and it wasn't until the end that it all made sense, but by then I felt that many of the jokes throughout the show were probably lost on me as I was trying to Colombo things together. I struggled to hear well- was it the acoustics in the room? Was it just me?

Bone Tower

Rita, Tim and Mike are comedy gold. The Windblown Cheeks of Lovers felt like a love child of Christopher Guest mockumentaries and the Simpsons and I am ON BOARD. All three are fantastic character actors and I loved meeting each persona. I didn’t know about the media elements of the show beforehand and I felt they enhanced the “documentary” or “behind the scenes” element of the show, which really gave a bump of theatricality I appreciated. Plus I love when folks take risks in tech. These folks are masters of their craft and I highly recommend you see them and laugh till you almost pee your pants. A joy. A delight. A bone tower. NOTE: if you’re worried about leaving the fringe hub DON’T BE. Strike is like 6 minutes from the main hub and has free parking. I was able to go between the Rarig and Strike quickly and still had time to chat with artists before the show.

Whirlwind “Cheeks” A Honking Good Time

If you’ve been to Hard Times twelve times in the past 8 days like I have and need a change of scenery, Strike has a pretty great lineup as an indecent venue, with “Windblown Cheeks” being the crown jewel. The plot itself—-an E! True Hollywood Story-style exposé on a hit 80s Soap Opera—is uproariously funny, but there’s a very enjoyable meta-element at play of watching three of the finest comedic actors in town trying to pull off a super-complicated play with dozens of characters, a video camera element, and several sprints backstage in order to not miss a cue. The whole thing is just pretty Bonkers. Tech Craig Corsi deserves a special shout-out, there were difficulties with the camera at times but I don’t think Craig missed a single one of what must’ve been over 40 lighting cues.

Lots of Good Fun!

This show is fast-paced with lots of laughs. The three performers seamlessly morphed between roles and it was fun watching the rapid switches near the end. The energy was playful and inclusive, and every joke landed. See this show!
