Ted Lasso fan fic

I've seen the TV show, so I got the references, but if you haven't I suspect that much of this show will not make sense to someone who hasn't. It feels like someone's fan fiction for "what if Ted Lasso's son was put into the same position as Ted but for theater. The costumes and mannerisms did a great job of evoking the characters that each actor/role was supposed to be imitating. There are some stand out vocal performances, though a couple performers I would have loved to have had mics while they were singing?

Company: The Bearded Company
Show: Dice of Destiny: Neon City

Randomly fun

Taking their improv/RPG show into cyberpunk made for a fun change of pace. The crew works well together, and adding randomization into what works and what doesn't can add some fun twists.

Company: Haute Dish Productions
Show: The Book of Mordor
Venue: Rarig Stoll Thrust Theatre

Exactly what it says…

This show delivers exactly what it claims to be. If you know Book of Mormon and Lord of the Rings, and the idea of making all of the songs from Book of Mormon about the Lord of the Rings, then this is the show for you. If you don’t know the Book of Mormon or the Lord of the Rings… well, go check them out, you’ll thank yourself, and then come check out this show.

Company: Comedy Suitcase
Show: The Gentlemen’s Pratfall Club
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Pain is funny…

… and there is a lot to laugh at in this show! Come for the pratfalls, but it was the jokes that really landed.

Company: Gabriel Shen | Twin Cities Youth Theatre
Show: Death! A Musical
Venue: The Southern Theatre

A well done play by young performers

This was written and rehearsed in a week; as such there are some rough edges, but these young performers did a great job. I want to particularly commend them on dealing with an accident on stage: they showed maturity and flexibility in the face of adversity. May your other shows be less stressful!

Company: Microplastics Productions
Show: The Writers Room: A failed documentary
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Sketch comedy with a few gems

There were lots of bits here, and not all of them landed for me. The joy of a sketch show, though, is that there are lots of different jokes, so hopefully if one bit doesn't land you can jump to another one - and the company did a good job of keeping everything moving so that no bit overstayed its welcome.

Company: Sufian Zhemukhov
Show: An Immigrant's Guide to America
Venue: Open Eye Theatre

Unenthralling

It sounds like each show is going to be on a different topic. In that case, I wish I had seen the earlier show. The show I saw was about his experiences with relationships, which were honest - but I felt like I wasn't getting his unique perspective as an immigrant. Lacking that, the stories he told were not very engaging. How do I know? I can tell you not only that the arch at the theater is uneven, I can tell you the stage left side is 5 bricks higher.

Company: Third Space Theater
Show: Breach
Venue: Theatre in the Round

A true must see

This show was the sort of unexpected gem that reminds me of why I come to the Fringe. I have seen full productions that didn't have the same quality. What they did with minimal lighting, props, and sound design was shocking. The only drawback - everything was so good I wanted more of it! If you don't currently have this on your schedule, you must see it.
