Breakneck? Not so much

I was expecting an over the top, crazy speed, overdramatised version of Middummer. This was not that. This was simply an hour cutting of midsummer. And becuase it did not reach the extreme run through, the choices made by actors came across as just bad acting. Not to mention they went 3-4 over time and due to that I missed my next show. If there are rules put into place they should be followed by all artists.

Company: [Un]Qualified
Show: H.G. Wells' THE INVISIBLE MAN
Venue: Southern Theater

Physical Comedy Gold!

I know very little about the Invisible Man but I loved this show! The physical comedy in this show is some of the best I have ever seen in the Fringe! The story telling was clear with a cast who were working their butts off! I would watch this show 100 times over! PS I normally do not laugh out loud at shows, this show had me cracking up the whole time!

Company: Jackdonkey Productions
Show: Dock Work

Memorizing Movement

I was so intrigued with the movement in this piece. Did I understand it all? No. But was I entertained? Yes! The three actors were committed and engaged the whole show. Their spoken work pieces were great and they worked will together. There was a live band on stage which I thought was unnecessary and a little distracting.

Company: Zercher Productions
Show: Epimetheus
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

I so wanted to like this show.

I went to this show after seeing the all 5 kitties reviews! They must be playing the family and friends game, which we all do..... This show has a "Last Five Years" or "Merrily We Roll Along" vibes. The story itself has merit and I hate giving such a low rating on anything artists have worked hard on but this show was bad. The blocking is boring, the transitions are choppy and unclean, the acting is mediocre, with actors breaking character multiple times. Not to mention that I never thought I would complain about projection in a space as small as the arena.

Company: Rebecca Wickert and Ella Eastman-Kiesow
Show: BRUTUS
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Julius Caesar but Better!

Before you go into this show, know that you are in fact watching a production of Julius Caesar. However this version has added some amazing movement, music and sound elements which elevate the Journey Brutus takes. I was amazed the whole time!

Company: Spektakular Theatre
Show: A Jingle Jangle Morning
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

So Cute!

What a fun and whimsical show! From the story, to the acting, all the way to the sound design, props, and set pieces! This show shows what an amazing world you can create with just a little cardboard!

Company: Melancholics Anonymous
Show: A Girl Scout’s Guide to Exorcism
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Comedy, Substance, Jonas Brothers!

This hilarious show is a nonstop train of laughs! The classic setting of a summer camp in 2008, mixed with the gradeschool girl scouts and the fawning over Camp Rock and the JoBros was a HUGE hit of nostalgia for me. The Melancholics Anonymous have this clever way of making a show with uproarious comedy and sneaking in some actual plot and issues of substance too, like environmentalism and feminism. Do yourself a favor and put this on the top of your list!

Company: Downton Productions
Show: Reception
Venue: Augsburg Studio

Such a Cute Heartwarming Piece

This was super enjoyable. The playwright did an amazing job at adding so many small Star Wars references throughout. From an Old Wise one with the knowledge to lead you in the right path to lines from the movies being used in the Dialogue. The direction was great as I knew exactly where I was the moment I walked into the theatre and the entire show felt like you were eavesdropping on conversations being had by all the wedding guests! The Actors were great, were committed to their characters and played well off each other! Good Job!

Company: Ashen Armor Productions
Show: The Definition of Loss
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

A Beautiful Show

This show was beautiful on so many levels. From the raw emotions to the dances to personify emotions that cannot be named. Content warning: you will be sitting in a moment of grief for an hour. BUT it you can do that you will get a chance to experience beauty, humanity, and maybe even a little healing. Thank you for letting us in on these personnel Moments of your life.

Company: Phina Pipia
Show: Ha Ha Da Vinci
Venue: Southern Theater

Engaging solo show

I am not usually one to put solo shows on my list but I took a chance on this one and I am glad I did. While the plot was simple the actor was able to keep the entire audience captivated! Moving through the story and her many talnets with enthusiasm.

Company: Hey Rube!
Show: Behemoth
Venue: Theatre in the Round

Came to this show after loving their show last yea

I love this company's use of more abstract and physical acting. All of the actors were very talented. I loved watching the movement from the actor playing the water Buffalo. I do wish there was more clarity with the through line of the story as it became confusing at times.

Company: Hercules Theatre Company

Company: Wet Splat Productions
Show: 20,000 Leagues Under the Telltale Heart
Venue: Rarig Center Arena

Improv show?

I will start this review by saying that I had no idea this was an improv show... even though yes it does say it in their description. However even had I known I think I would have been slightly confused. It seems as if the Ensemble had previously really thought out the concept and the major points in the plot. Becuase of this it didn't feel like an improv show or a written script. All of these actors are really funny and the concept/story is well thought out. So well thought out I wish they would have taken the time to just actually write a script with all their funny ideas. The show would have been much more polished and profession just like there amazing opening dance was!

Company: Clucklesworth Productions
Show: Pearl and Eugene: One Last Shtick
Venue: Mixed Blood Theatre

Their smile makes you smile!

This is a fun and sweet show! I loved the use of music in the story but the plot is a little predictable. However all of the actors fully commit to their story. My favorite part is that it is very clear that they all love doing what they do! The joy and smile and laughter on stage is so contagious that you'll be smiling and laughing too!
